The Jilala Art Fund is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and supporting the Art of Free – and the artists who dedicate(d) their lives to Free. The Jilala Art Fund will be there to support the work of artists who are involved in a free economy, and to support generosity in contemporary art practices
The Jilala Art Fund came about when a member of the SF Diggers and Angels of Light passed away. James E. Tressler, aka JET, had lived a life dedicated to the Art and Act of FREE. Jet was a filmmaker, painter, writer, and community activist who continued to provide free food theater for those in need throughout his entire life. Jet’s dedication to a life of service and insistence on supporting a free economy removed him from most systems of support available to artists.
When an artist operates in a FREE economy, but the world around the artist does not, art is lost. It still costs money to create a show or print a book. Where does that support come from? This was what Jet’s family was faced with when they wanted to publish a book of his art. This was what inspired the Jilala Art Fund to come into existance.
We hope that the Jilala Art Fund will be there to support the work of artists who are involved in a free economy, as art should be free for everyone.
The Jilala Art Fund is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to Art Service, including funding an exhibition, preservation of art, and production of printed materials and films. Please consider making a donation. All donations are fully tax deductible.
